Sakai Kohaku Part I Print

The start with "Sakura"

"Sakura" laid eggs for 8 years starting in 1983, ending in 1990.  "Sakura" was also a female parent transferred from Matsue Nishikigoi Center.  It was produced by Shoichi Iizuka at the center.
According to Iizuka, "Sakura" was produced by crossing the Sankuro type female obtained from Miyatora Yorijo in Niigata and The male Morita Sensuke.
Kohaku 1: Grand champion of the ZNA All-Japan Nagoya Taikai. 90 bu kohaku owned by Mr. Nobuo Takigawa, sibling of Rose and Fujiko and produced from parent set C.
The picture shown (c) was taken in the spring of 1988.  The two male bodies in the right are Dainichi Kohaku.  This combination was intended from the beginning.  The quality of beni is obvious from the picture.
I was curious avout the parents of "Sakura" made by Iizuka.  One is the incorporation of Morita Sensuke, not as the mother but as the father.  Another is the fact that the female was derived from the line of Sankuro.
It is still under the debate which sex would affect the heredity more.  Quite usually, however, the family tree is created around the female.  Following this case, it was easily imagined that Iizuka utilized Sensuke as the mother and chose the father from the line of Tomoin, but it was actually the opposite.
There was an interview about Sankuro Kohaku with Hachiro Mano, which explained the lineage.  The role Sankuro Kohaku has played in the history of Kohaku is quite enormous.  There are two lines:  A line as the founding male parents of Manzo Kohaku; B line as the female parents which lead to producing Natsuji Anabuki's "Beniko" which one the overall prize at the 12th Tokyo Competition.  Both are holding unskippable important key points in considering Kohaku today.
We inquired at Miyatora Yorijo in an attempt to find which of the two lines are included in the parent, but there was no recollection of the details there.
The auther direct the attention to the A line.  The quality of beni matches the description by Koji Sakai.  The bodies of "Rose" and "Fujiko", which are offspring of "Sakura", resemble the body of Sensuke line - as well as the impression of Manzo line.
Monjiro Kohaku is used as the female parents of Sankuro A line.  Monjiro was under the shadow of reigning Tomoin Kohaku, but it occasionally appears as the gray eminence.  Monjiro has been utilized as the original father of Yagozenn Kohaku, which is represented by "Yoru no Chou".
Gathering all information, it becomes feasible to draw the geneology that stems from Monjiro to Sankuro, eventually extended to "Sakura".
